A native of Detroit, Michigan, Sarah Dark began studying ceramics in 2006, working closely with studio potter, Caroline Cercone, who introduced her to the Japanese folk craft movement. Influenced heavily by Cercone and the Mingei tradition, Sarah creates wares that celebrate simple moments throughout the day. Her studio is in Nashville, TN.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work aims at amplifying beauty in workaday objects. I am particularly interested in the broad but deep-down satisfaction beautiful material and design bring to our lives. I enjoy working with the earthy elemental character of clay to build simple wares, vessels, and sculptures. Dirt and heat and stuff of stars, the work is my tiny wave back at the cosmos.
